Sandtray Therapy

What is Sandtray Therapy?

Sandtray therapy is a therapeutic modality that uses a tray filled with sand and a collection of miniature figures and objects. It provides a three-dimensional and interactive medium for individuals to express and explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a symbolic and nonverbal way.

What happens in a sandtray session?

In sandtray therapy, the individual is given the freedom to create scenes, worlds or landscapes using the sand and the miniature figures. The client’s ‘world’ is created in symbol and metaphor, as a reflection of the client’s life. In this protected space with a trained counselor, the individual can begin to recognize the relationships between their creation in the sand and their inner experience in order to work toward healing and the resolution of problems.
