Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

  • What is ERP?

ERP is a type of therapy that helps you to overcome your fear and/or anxiety. The exposure component of ERP refers to practicing confronting the thoughts, images, objects, and situations that make you anxious. The response prevention part of ERP refers to making a choice not to do a compulsive behavior once the anxiety has been “triggered.” ERP is used for those diagnosed with phobias, anxiety, and OCD.

*ERP is also done playfully at our practice allowing this work to be done with all age groups.

  • Why do ERP?

ERP will help you to learn how to sit with anxiety, desensitize you to your anxious thoughts/obsessions, combat compulsive behavior, and overall help you to live a life free from the anxiety that holds you down. It is hard work, but the end results of this therapy make a profound difference in many peoples’ lives.

  • What can I expect?

You can expect two things from this therapy, as with many types of therapy. It will be challenging, but it will also be incredibly rewarding to take your power back from your anxiety disorder. Your therapist will be with you, helping you take your time in confronting your fears every step of the way!
